The Scandinavian Market
The Scandinavian Market is known throughout the world as a "test market" for among other things fashion, furniture and technical gadgets. The population is well educated and travels a lot - and with a high standard in their everyday lives. So Scandinavia receives one of the highest quotas per capita of fine champagne, exclusive wines and expensive premium spirits. As a matter of fact, Sweden drinks more single malt whisky per capita than any other country in the world, even Scotland.
Sweden, Norway and Finland are all regulated countries with a monopoly for retail alcoholic beverages - making this one of the hardest countries to market this kind of product in. Denmark is more like the other European countries in regard of the marketing and selling of alcoholic beverages.
On a regular bottle of spirit, the amount of taxes might be as much as 2/3 of the retail price, making more exclusive bottles relatively less expensive. For example, the tax on one bottle of 70 cl 40% alcohol was on January 1st 2010 when $1 = 7,20 SEK, €1 = 10,35 SEK and 1 NOK = 1,24 SEK:
Norway: 192,40 SEK : $26,70 : €18,60
Sweden: 140,39 SEK : $19,50 : €13,60
Finland: 114,10 SEK : $15,90 : €11,00
This is why Signo d'Oro is committed to only bringing the best of the best in the Super Premium and Ultra Premium categories of spirits to the Scandinavian market.
